Small Animal Abstracts

The submission website includes complete instructions, deadlines, and submission examples. No changes in abstracts will be allowed after submission.

Abstracts should represent original research not yet published or presented elsewhere and not to be published or presented prior to the 2022 IVECCS. Authors of successful abstracts will be notified via e-mail by June 1, 2022. Accepted abstracts will be presented at IVECCS in San Antonio, TX on Thursday, September 8 2022 for Resident Abstracts and Friday, September 9 2022 for general abstacts. Each presentation will be twelve minutes in length followed by a three-minute discussion. Abstracts not accepted for oral presentation may be given the option to be presented as posters. Presenters may choose poster as the primary means of presentation, if so desired, by indicating preference on the submission website. ACVECC-approved residents will be eligible for an oral presentation award. A resident submitter should indicate on the submission website that they are an ACVECC-approved resident only if they are a resident at the time of abstract submission (April 2022), or if they completed residency in 2021 and the work to be presented was completed during the residency. Authors of accepted abstracts must register for the meeting, and registration is not complimentary.

Veterinarian Case Reports

Veterinarian Case Reports
Deadline for submission is June 10, 2022

Have an interesting case to present? Please submit one page or less summary of the case by midnight EST June 10, 2022. The goal of this session is to highlight unique and challenging cases managed by Emergency and Critical Care doctors! The case should have been managed, at least in part, by the presenter. Preference is given to ACVECC residents in training and those in ER practice for three years or less. Residents are asked to include the name of a mentor who has been involved in evaluating the submission. Small and Large animal cases are encouraged! The top 10 cases will be selected for presentation.

Two award winners will be selected at IVECCS.

Awards
Case report awards will be presented at the IVECCS award ceremony during IVECCS 2022: San Antonio

Veterinarian Case Report Award: a $500 award will be given to the top veterinarian case report.

Royal Canin Veterinary Nutritional Case Report Award: a $500 award will be given by Royal Canin for the best case report where nutritional management was included in the treatment plan.

Technician Case Reports

Technician/ Nurse Case Reports
Deadline for submission is June 10, 2022

Unique and interesting case management scenarios are encouraged for submission. There is no limitation to the species or specific scenario, except that the emphasis should be on the emergency and critical care or anesthesia nursing aspect of the case. Small animal, large animal, exotic, toxicology, internal medicine, anesthesia, and surgery cases are welcome.

Case report presentations are limited to individuals that have NO prior lecturing experience in order to make this a learning experience for those individuals that might be considering lecturing in the future. Recipients of any prior case report awards are also ineligible to present.

Candidates should be a credentialed veterinary technician/nurse (CVT, LVT, LVMT, RVT, RVN, CVN, AVN, etc) and members of VECCS. All case reports must be initially assessed by a licensed DVM or if applicable a board certified specialist (ACVS, ACVAA, ACVIM, ACVECC…). The individual or assessor is required to initially ensure the quality of the case report being submitted.

Large Animal Abstracts

Large Animal Abstracts
Deadline for submission is June 15, 2022

The submission website includes complete instructions, deadlines, and submission examples. No changes in abstracts will be allowed after submission.

Abstracts should represent original research not yet published or presented elsewhere and not to be published or presented prior to the 2022 IVECCS. Authors of successful abstracts will be notified via e-mail by July 1, 2022. Abstracts may be presented as either oral or poster format. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care; therefore, close attention must be paid to the format instructions. Failure to follow formatting instructions will result in rejection.

If you are an approved ACVECC, ACVIM, ACVS, or ACVAA resident or ACVECC fellow or enrolled in a Large Animal/Equine specific internship, please indicate so on the submission form. House officer’s abstracts will be presented in the same session and special recognition will be given to the most outstanding paper by a resident. If you completed your training program after July 1, 2022, you may present in the resident’s forum if the research was conducted while you were a resident. However, if you are a faculty member of an institution after your residency was finished,  you should not enter as a resident. Indicate the termination date of your residency in your cover e-mail and provide your mentor’s name and e-mail address.

Oral presentations of accepted abstracts will be on Thursday September 8, 2022, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Presentations will be twelve minutes in length followed by a three-minute question period. Specific instructions for poster presentations will be sent to poster presenters. A designated time will be determined for all poster presenters to attend their posters to answer questions. Authors of abstracts are reminded they must register for the meeting and that registration is not complimentary.
